Hi guys, not quite sure whether this is going to sound right:confused:.
I have a Td5 auto and when I try and put my foot down hard, for overtaking, there is an initial go and then its fast-slow-fast-slow:eek:. Apart from making the wife and kids car sick it is starting to really P**S me off.
any ideas please.

Is the engine fine apart from that or is it missing? If it's misfiring, check for oil contamination to the injector wiring loom.

If it's only when you are booting it I would guess that the turbo wastegate is sticking or fuel filter is blocked.

Is the fuel pump noisey when priming up? Have you changed your fuel filter recently? TD5's like clean fuel filters. Fuel pumps failing is also a common fault.

If it does it when accelerating moderately too then I would try a new temp sensor.

Pretty sure it is not mis-firing. Define noisy when priming? You can hear it running but only if you are really listening for it! Had it on diagnostics check week after I bought it to solve gear box problem. Told that everything else was good. No problems when driving normally( well normal for me anyway;). Will have to think about changing fuel filter first and take it from there. How hard is that for a complete numpty to do?:D

It's not noisey then. You would hear noisey;)

It's easy but messy. It will just be a case of unscrew the old one and screw on a new one. You may need to use the water sensor or water drain valve (depending which yours has) from the old filter on the new one. Try and fill the new filter with fuel before fitting it as it will reduce the amount of time needed to purge the air out.

TD5's like good quality fuel pumps. Avoid britpart ones. (They don't like em)

when the new filter is on, turn the ignition on and wait for the fuel pump to stop buzzing. (you will now notice what NOISEY means;)). When the pump stops buzzing pump the accelerator pedal 5 times. This will send the pump into purge mode and it will run continously for about 2 or 3 mins. Repeat this process several times until the fuel pump quietens down before attempting to start it.

If it is still kangarooing after the new fuel filter you will need to check the operation of the turbo wastegate as it is most likely that it will be Turbo overboosting as eightinavee has stated.
