Well I followed all the suggestions I recieved in part 1 of this saga, tried heat, tries punching the flats of the nut, tried a bar on the pulley and bfh on the spanner - all to no avail.

Spoke to a mate, who told me the fan was attached to a flange on the back of the pulley - great I thinks, so undo the pulley only to find the feckin fan aint attached to the pulley at all. So now can't get the pulley back on, or the fan off, so only thing I could think of was to chop the fecker off.:screaming_bug_eye_f

Well that went well for a bit, got through the nut with half a dozen hacksaw blades, bleeding knuckles and some mild cursing, then hit the shaft that the nut sits on which is hardened - 4" grinder wouldn't reach, 9" grinder wouldn't reach, recip saw reached but wouldn't touch it.

So now the pulley is loose, the fan isn't and I cant move it because the belts are all off. Oh and i cut the vanes off the fan to make room for the hack saw, knowing that I'd have to replace it.

Has anyone got a suggestion as to how I can get this sorted, supposed to be going to Scotland in 2 weeks........:(:(:(:(:(

nor me, i thought it would be a 5 minute job, that was yesterday, and have been on it all day.....

Had a punch and 4lb hammer on all the flats, and it still wouldn't budge.

Perhaps I'm doing it wrong, but starting to feel a bit out of my depth here.....

you are undoing clockwise as is lhg thread ,if youd hit each flat then nut would stretch loose undoing pulley was pointless as v/c serures to the boss secured in front cover

As you have found out the fan attaches to the water pump after the pully is attached
Mine is undone antclockwise, while yours is clockwise.

Try a bigger hammer :D :behindsofa:

Mine came off easy enough just smacked the fan spanner a few times and that was it.

Dont ask me which way I turnt it though cos I can't remember. :p

Hi as you look at your engine the fan needs to go to the right to undo ! It has a left hand thread ! Get a thin long chisel a large hammer and a medium pry bar ,
Put the pry bar behind the pulley and wedge it tight against the casing !! You may need a third hand!! Then get your chisel onto one of the right side flats ! Now whack it , it takes a propper positive bash or two to free it , then it will spin off easy peaty !! Don't be scared realy whack it !! It will give in if you hit it right !!
