wanting a decent quality AT tyre that is not to noisy or heavy on the fuel, but also without having to sell my house like i would to pay for the name BF GOODRICH good as they maybe :)

wanting 215/70/16 so to give a small raise (unless i can fit larger than 70)

currently running 215/65/16.

I live in sheffield so if anyone can recommend a decent tyre and even somewhere in my area that sells them even better.

I know this has been covered lots but just wondering if anyone knows a good place near me and a decent tyre.

I like white writing as well :lalala:

Sound. Don't know that specific tyre but have used Falken's on an XK8 before, good life and performance.

You won't get a definitive answer on tyres as there are so many around to pick from. Best result is if you like 'em then they are perfect.

Just shop around on price.
 
yeah i used to run falkens on my old mini's. anyone showing a preference between 205/80/16 or 215/70/16. i would like the lift as that was what has been causing most probs in snow, but saying that will 205 be a bit slim and look like bike wheels.

would 215/75/16 fit without issues?

You have hit my tyre expertise barrier :) but sure someone else will drop by with a response.

Whilst being attracted to beefing up tyres I've always been put off by the potential insurance issues. Besides, is the difference in traction/performance/steering etc that great?
 
Grabber AT2s.....so far so good in the snow....

What insurance issues exactly??? I have heard that people with 'winter tyres' may not be properly insured......i know no details, just heard it.....

I don't think Grabbers would cause any issues. I almost wish..... but Michelins i have. Btw ref your post on similar thread Grabbers are not by any means expensive compared to Pirelli etc.

Back to insurance, what I meant was not the tyre - hence no probs with Grabbers - but changing away from the manufacturers original fitment. i.e. my original 215/65/16 can be swapped for (I think) up to 225 and up to 70 without fouling the running gear, but Insurers want to know as it is a modification.

And to add to that, hopefully someone can confirm or advise - I recall the slimmer the tyre the better in snow? As in the big volvo with truck tyres will slide all over the place?

Talking road here not track. :cool:
 
The Falken AT is a decent tyre at a decent price. I put a couple on a Mitsubishi I had but unfortunately the car went so I can't comment on longevity. Online reviews are good though as was performance in the short time I used them; quite acceptable on road with no noticeable increase in noise and they were great for my (mild) off road use where I go shooting.

My Freelander is due some new hoops so I think I'll be putting a full set of these on, though mine is on 15 inch rims so I'll probably stick with the standard 195/80R15 fitment rather than having to replace all 5 by going up to 215's.

does it have radically different tyres to when it left the factory ? if the answer is yes it is a modification and they reserve the right to charge more, even if they are an improvement.

However, ABI (Association of British Insurers) have said this is complete bollocks, and if anyone has any problems with increased costs due to fitting winter tyres, please refer the matter to them and they will inform the insurer the error of their ways.

seems a little odd when one of the ideas being kicked around by various think tanks is to make fitting winter tyres compulsory in for the winter, like some of our scandanavian friends

Two issues here Optical, winter tyres should be no problem even if the bastid call centre does say otherwise. Changing tyre size is another.

I think.

We have no Scandinavian friends - all dodgy banks and walrus eating surrender monkeys.
