All the exterior trim on my 1999 td5 is starting to look tired now, she spent some time in corfu before I bought her so that will not have helped. Ive thought about spraying them with black satin, but I should probably undercoat them first which runs into a bigger task, back to black products are imo pretty crap, also heard to rub some oil on a rag over them but I think the dust on the lanes will stick to that. Any other ideas or tips out there?

As u say if they are faded and gone greyish then the only thing is to spray them with the paint produced for plastic trim and keep any polish away, to clean just wash and dry.
But if they are still black then Auto Glym's Bumper Black, also called Bumper & Trim Detailer, is the best but it can be three times the price.

To make a proper job, it is best to remove the trims completly, rub them down then give them plenty of coats of high build primer, rubbing down inbetween, and then a satin black top coat.

Taking them off is just a case of pulling at the trim gently.

Then remove the old foam adhesive from the trim and body with a rubber wheel,

Then apply adhesion promoter followed by several coats of high build primer, followed by a satin black top coat,

Then thoroughly clean the trim and paint work with isopropyl Alcohol,

I then used 3M,s " RP45 " VHB tape to stick them back on.

And job done.

£37.00 for paint,
£5.00 for IPA, ( bloody handy to have anyway ).
£18.00 for 33m of RP45 tape. ( got loads left and it really does stick plastic to paintwork ).

Nice Job, just need a bit of time in my work load to get mine done, as 3 look really bad and are as rough as a Badgers arse!!
