have you done it?

Not on a bumper, no. And before you say, "Don't judge..........etc.", we give advice to the masses on here, some are more skilled, most are less so, or else they wouldn't need this forum. And while loads of advice on here is brilliant for saving the pennies, as your bumper melting method is no doubt, some techniques require a certain finesse. It's very easy for us to say, "Well I've done it, no probs!!" for others it's a mechanical minefield. As I stated before, it's only my opinion about using the less skilled option, as it is yours with the heatgun :)

Now this is gonna sound really cheap but......I saw an aerosol can of Tesco own brand Tyre & Bumper restorer a couple of weeks ago (In Tesco's not suprisingly) At £2.97 I thought nothing to lose!!!
I have used it on my 3 door hardtop and it has done a great job. Rubbed it in with a soft cloth in sections and then buffed it off....Has left a nice clean matt finish.

How long it will last remains to be seen, but at that price:clap2:

absolutely right ;)

but i'm not talking about a blow torch, it's an electric heat gun....some practice could be required for those with limited accumen.
but you'd have to be a complete klutz to damage it tbh.
but having wrote that, your concern is valid and noted

Well - the Autoglym stuff needs re-doing about every 2 to 3 months - just a quick wipe over with a piece of rag/cloth and a very small amount of the gel.

It makes washing the truck easier too, as road crud just rinses off.

It's only £6.49 or so from Halfrauds and at the rate I'm using it - it'll last me another 10 years. ;)

I too wouldn't trust myself with one of these powerful 'hair-dryer / heat-guns'.

Due to my hairstyle I haven't needed a hairdryer in donkey's years.

Did I do it too long!!!!!:(

They were grey pre 2003 and black post 2003. I have a 1999 Hippo and bought the full facelift conversion including black plastics. Unfortunatley never got round to fitting the facelift kit so its all sat in the convervatory :(

Mines a 2001 I facelifted! Grey arches blacked to match bumpers!

Sorry, black bumpers started in the 2002 model year. Grey before that. Colour coded started 2004 onwards.

Mine are grey and I'm going to try the heat gun trick. Keeps yer hands warm while yer doing it too. Will have a go on a lower down bit first and see how it goes.

Should you clean off the white marks left by polish overspill before using the heatgun method or the various chemicals mentionned above to restore colour to yer bumpers? And if so, what with?
