I have been thinking about extending the ECU loom so I can raise the ECU (in case I take it swimming). Does anybody know where/if any extension cable is available with a male and female 40 pin plug?

If not, does anybody know where I might get hold of the right connectors so I can make up my own extension?

Cheers.

The looms are built with specialised plugs/sockets and as far as I am aware the plugs etc. are not available. I suggest, either get part of the loom from a breakers and splice it in or get suitable single cable and extend it that way. Ideally, the joints should be soldered and covered with heat shrink tubing with sealant coating on the inside-this will ensure a waterproof joint and follow up with a good layer of insulation or amalgamating tape on the outside.

Thanks for that guys, given me some food for thought. It looks like I'll have to chop the spare loom I have to do this job, can't say it's one I'm enthusiastic for, maybe I'll just look for a way to waterproof the thing where it is, looks like it'll be an easier option.

If you can't get the loom that Madhat is reccomending (Fair play to him) or decide to splice the extension into it, R.S. Components-and probably other suppliers, supply double sleeved adhesive lined heat shrink tubing which is used for hazardous applications for it's waterproof properties. We are talking about high voltage not 12V so providing it's applied correctly it will be perfectly safe & secure. I would have no hesitation in using it.
