Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of buying this but what is it worth; you guys know your stuff whereas I'm still learning the force!! This is my final check before I throw my hard earned cash away::confused:

The advert price was GBP6,950

The body is not great (that's the nature of the Landy) but I can sort that. This is the bit that I'm really looking forward too in all honesty as I'm into my body repairs, i.e. more than driving it.

Spec:

The block is built from the crank upward with all new parts:

· Piper Torquemax Cam
· Real Steel Balanced Pistons
· Reel Con Rods
· Rebuilt 3.9ltr Heads
· New Weber 500cpm
· Four Barrel Carb on new Edelbrock Manifold
· New distributor coil and power amp kit
· New Magnacor leads
· New Duplex Timing Chain
· New Big Bore Stainless Steel Custom Made Exhaust System
· New ARB Compressor
· Air Line Feed to Front and Rear ARB Lockers
· New Old Man Emu Springs
· New Pro Shock 9000ES Shocks
· New Steering Damper
· Rebuilt Swivel Joints
· Fully overhauled suspension and UV Joints
· Warn Winch to Front
· Superwinch to Rear
· Full Safety Devices Roll Cage
· New Hood

Thanks Chaps

its been used as a challange truck so will of had a hard life, wings look like there already full of filler,
Id pay around £4-5k

For that sort of money I would be wanting a TD5, 4k tops and not a penny more. The seller will not have buyers queuing up to buy it so depends how much he want's to get rid of it. The fact he's probably spent an arm and several legs on it is neither here nor there, few people would want it so the sellers options are very limited. Good luck ;)

when was the block rebuilt and does it come with any warranty?
how much has it been used since the block was rebuilt?

if its been used as a challenge truck/racer, it'll have been thrashed.
if its a bling thing, check the quality.
should also comply with msa regs if used as challenge truck.

what do you want if for?

It was built approx 2000-miles ago according to the owner and has been used as an off-road play thing and as a local runabout. The MOT has expired but the guy will have a new one put on prior to the purchase.

The underneath is in super condition by all accounts (his words) but I have not seen the thing myself. There's also the small issue of me being several thousand miles away from the UK until 10-days from now.

He'll take £6,500 for it.

My aim is to have fun off-road, Play and pay etc, and off-road centres where I trailer it to the venue site and back home again. I like tinkering so the repair-thing is not a problem but even so I don't wish to buy something that's on its last legs.

Thanks to the rest of the guys for their replies too. I have checked out eBay but no Landy these days is cheap and Im just wondering what it would cost for me to buy a LR and add the bits, hence the reason why I thought it was an OK price.

possibly not up to msa regs then.
bling springs to mind, would want to scrutinise the build quality.

you can buy cheaper for play days, it'll get trashed without any competition element to make it feel worthwhile.

seems a lot of money for what it was originally, and for what you want it for.

each to their own tho, tis your choice ;)

^this. It's all very well people saying that you shouldn't pay more than £x but how much would it cost to create a similar vehicle. That would be a realistic measure of its value.
If it is well built and seems like a good price to you then go for it. Let other people obsess about a few quid.

Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of buying this but what is it worth

its worth what someone's willing to pay.
Hi Guys,

you guys know your stuff whereas I'm still learning the force!! This is my final check before I throw my hard earned cash away::confused:

its very well asking advise on a forum, but if its the last check before parting with your hard earned, before you've seen the motor or got someone on your behalf to see it, then its a gamble.

thats the critacle bit!
the op asked. we're only replying :D

I expected some great points and I think I've had the full spread today - thanks guys.

My dilema is that I'm looking at eBay every night and I know what I want, (a Landy dressed as a Tonka Truck:)), but I just can't find it. A decent Landy sets you back a good few quid while some of the top-end modded machines would take at least two kidneys and a heart to help purchase and I don't think I can really afford to loose them at the mo.

This whole thing is a compromise and I keep thinking of my other forum when people ask about the value of a car only to be told its 50-quid and a pack of Haribo sweeties.

I'll give it 24hrs and if I find in the morning that I haven't slept through worry then I'll cancel. That being said I think I'll have one last look on the eBay web site.

I would love to know how much the equipment in the list below would cost if purchased 2nd-hand or new?

I have my thinking cap on.

have a look on Devon 4x4 forum, normally quite a fedw of the truck cabs on there for sale

Don't be in too much of a rush, easier said than done I know. There will be other landys though not necessarily immediately. If you do decide to go for this particular one, then do it for the long term. That way if you do pay over the odds at least you'll get many years of enjoyment out of it. I try and keep mine an average 8 years by which time I've had my moneys worth out of it. I'm not suggesting you do the same, but the longer you keep your landy, the better :)

In this world there are many "weekend" mechanics. Some very very good some downright dangerous. There is no warranty on a truck that has been messed with to that extent. You pays yer money and takes yer chance. Could be a money pit with all that buggering about, when you get problems you need to be a detective to find out what is bolted in to things like that. That is why folk pitch in with much lower prices, these things are difficult to sell on at good money.

and a good gawp at it first ;)

Yep, you're right guys, only fools rush in and I should know better than to jump feet first before I look.;)

I think it's a no for now.

Thanks John, I joined the Devon 4x4 forum last night (great club BTW) only to find that prices are no cheaper there either. That being said there are Landys available at the lower end of the cost spectrum but I can't put those knackered old things on my driveway; the wife just wouldn't allow it.

The Blue 90-dream is now over so I'm back to the drawing board. The guy selling it seems a genuine chap according to my wife so I do feel slightly guilty but hey-ho, life goes on. I’ll keep looking but I’m not sure where these 4 to 5k 90s are that people are suggesting in their threads below.

Oooops, just seen my watch; I've got to go - this haystack is massive and I only have so much time in a day to search!!

try something like this: Clicky linky thingy

tis n the for sales on ere.

You'd have to look but it sounds like its worth going to see. Galv chassis and a V8 if its your thing.

Best bet is start with a decent beginning and do the mods yourself, then you know its done right.
