hi all, :)
when i bought me car i got all service history and any garage bills that were done.as milage is on a 160000 + how long do h/g roughly lasts now i wreckon an average of 60,000, only while reading the history it shows as never been done or bills are missing ,anyone else think other wise andy

Nah Head gaskets can last for ever It's Timing belts that need replacing.
 
It was common for them to fail between 60 and 100,000 miles when they were "new" back in the day.But if they were done properly they would just go on then with no problems.
The 200TDI I have agreed to buy back for my SIII had a gasket at 72,000m,I bought it at 149,had it till 216 - it now has done 242 and even the injectors have not been touched.
The timing belt as said is alot more important.
