Hi Guys,

I took my 99 4.6 (Thor) in for a checkup the other day, and the entire exhaust system is in quite poor condition. (Although a clean bill of health for the rest of it apart from an ageing radiator!)

Luckily my friend who also has a P38 although a 96 model with single exhaust, had bought a twin exhaust system for his to retrofit only to find it wouldnt fit because of the brake line locations etc. Anyway long story short I have purhcased that from him.

Now the center box on mine is a fairly recent britpart exhaust, i've a receipt for it in the history but its pretty much ruined and rotten. Can I just simply straight pipe this bit purely to free up a bit of noise from the old bruiser up front. I'm not into a huge great exhaust system anymore but being able to hear some more V8 rumble would be appreciated!

Center sections appear to be about £50 or so, so its not going to be any cheaper etc will there be any implications of me doing this or should I stop being 6 years old and put a new center box on?

Yeah ive looked at a couple of videos on youtube, some sound amazing some not so much but that could be the camera used to record it! Just spoke to the garage I use for odds and ends and although not enthusiastic (about the only mechanic in the world that hates cars I think!) says it should be no problem and he has the bits there... Might save me £20... I suppose I can try and and if its rubbish just put a £50 center box and sell my "delete pipe"

I've 3 V8's (the rangie, the M5 and my coffee table!), and all three are silent!

Well I finally got around to it. Apologies for the appalling video, I didn't actually notice there were a brace of local corsa/saxos camped on the other side of the carpark... which joined in with a 3 cylinder dawn chorus so I had to edit that bit out!

Other than that I'm like a cat that's got the cream, certainly the most effective for the least cash modification I have ever done to any vehicle!

Nah, when you've worked on them long enough you get to hate them.;):)

The diesel brigade love to snipe at anything V8. If you like the sound, that's all that matters. Some like a silent V8, others like to make a noise burning all that fuel. Engine sounds fine to me.:D

Ahh I see... Dirty oil burners ;) I'll probably get bored of it before long but a center silencer is easy enough to pop back in!

Hows it sound on a good run, motorway etc?

Not really any different to be honest, its noticeable on startup and its quite loud below 2000rpm and at high throttle loadings. But beyond 60mph and a light throttle cruise its not much different than normal.

Good to hear, sounds similar to my Janspeed system but a little more throaty. Thought about this myself but didn't want to hear anything on a motorway run etc.
