As part of a big overhaul on my 90 i decided to have the injectors refurbished because i was getting little symptoms that one wasn't working correctly.

With the old injectors I had altered the pump slightly to increase power but at the same time boost economy. i had gotten it perfect in the end by tweaking the low boost by half a turn and the max fuel screw by 1/4 turn. This gave me an average of 30mpg which i was very pleased with given the bigger than standard chunky tires i have fitted and the stopping and starting i have to do on the journey to and from work everyday.

Once i had fitted my newly re-furbished injectors i took it out for a spin and i could not believe the amount of smoke that she was kicking out! Especially in boost. i had gotten onto the phone to the diesel shop about maybe setting the pressures wrong but they seem convinced they were correct so my first action was to put the pump to it's standard setting and still it smoked like a train. bloomin quick though!

many weeks down the line i have gradually gotten my mpg back and have controlled the smoke by turning down low boost to 1 1/2 turns below standard and keeping max fuel screw at 1/4 turn. (which confused me a little because it seemed the low boost affected the high boost fuelling as well)

my issue now is that with these settings, i am getting a perfect low boost power for my needs and the same could be said for medium boost before the turbo spools up but the smoke has completely died down from high boost and the engine has become a little sluggish while in boost. i don't get so much of a kick when the turbo hits boost anymore and going up slopes has been rather painful to say the least.

I'll check all the turbo hoses etc. tomorrow but if someone could tell me which individual pump adjustment actually does, that would be great. like i've said i have only tweaked low boost and max fuel, i believe there is still the star wheel and the diaphragm cone but even after searching the interweb i'm still not sure exactly sure what tweak does what.

All i need is more power when the engine is in boost, everything else is tweaked perfectly.

Its bit of a worry if there is no smoke. It is better to have some smoke and will increase the power. I am sorry but i don't have the experience to inform you what to do on the Land Rover engine. Toyotas just had a single screw you would adjust to control how much fuel it would use. You sure there are no air leaks? do you have a boost gauge? may pay to spray around all joints and connectors with soapy water
It may even be unrelated like the waste gate actuator opening to early or partly seized.
