excessive smoke fuel burner

hi, am new to site and range rovers.. can anyone help.. under 6 degrees fuel burner comes on.. seems to cause excessive smoke from front n/s wing .. cant even see car in front.. loos like the red arrows.. can anyone help ..??:mad:
 
I've never used mine but it's control is under the main screen heading auxiliary ventilation or heater
If you are new to the range then you can search this forum and also search for rave manual download which is a fantastic set of information and repair manuals
 
I have never used mine, am I correct in thinking it runs on petrol ?
I don't use anything that's not essential as I have enough things to fix
 
All TD6 models had the diesel heaters fitted as standard

Petrol models didn't though, and it is extremely rare to find a 4.4 V8 with a fuel burning heater

Mine often scares the hell out of me, as when the thing shuts off it can often leave a stream of smoke for a minute as it burns off the left over fuel in the combustion chamber

If your at a standstill when this does that it can give the impression you've got smoke coming out your engine or its on fire as smoke can get sucked into the cabin air intake causing diesel fumes in the car

Stupid design that the exhaust is right under the front wing... Might mod mine and reroute it out the way ;)
 
thanks , im not alone then.. can you pull a fuse out , to turn it off..or is it needed..model is vogue se 06 diesel.. worst problem I had is fibre optic for radio etc.. took out nokia,joined cables together.. now dvd, cd, radio, perfect

Don't extend the exhaust without first finding out the max length advised. The Espacher cab heaters had a small spark plug which can be cleaned when it started to play up. Don't know about the Webasto but I bet its on Google.:)

Webasto are the same in principle to Eberspacher, oiled up plugs were a constant problem.
 
Can anyone give a rough guide for a cost to have fbh serviced.. When mine kicks in.. It looks like the red arrows...is there a way to turn it off... 6 /7 degrees seems unneccessary for it to come on.. Any help/. Advice welcome
 
Not sure about the Webasto, but you can get service kits for Eberspacher heaters, plenty on eBay.
Again not too sure about the Webasto, but on the Eberspacher heaters there is a gauze that surrounds the Glow plug this gets blocked causing it to smoke profusely, you can strip it & clean the gauze but it doesn't last for long until it needs doing again. How do I know this, well I'm going down the yard tomorrow to do mine in my Wagon again.

Don't forget the spark plug and check the exhaust pipe is clear Paul.:)
 
Glow plug it is Alan & the exhaust is clear, checked all that last time.
Didn't happen today anyway, bloody thing is still up on the ramp having the rad changed.

Its purpose is to help the engine get to proper working temp quickly when the ambient temp gets to 5 deg or below. Excessive smoke is due to poor ignition. These units are easy to service, Ive got a few pdfs detailing troubleshooting and stuff- its all BMW related but essentially the same.
