hi just purchased an ex military ser2 swb is there much differance between a military + a civvie version as in differant parts used is there any problems getting parts are body panels the same etc ive never owned a military version before should have asked these questions before buying i know but to late im now the proud owner a ser2 military without to much grief i hope

not much difference. g'box x-member is bolted in on ex mil. welded on civvy
bumpers area bit different
and ex mil have an extra light underneath

the ffr ones have different lectrics

oh and ex mil ones have two fuel tanks

am sure there more but can't think of them just now

Also normally have more blades on the fan. Double belts on the pulleys. Water pump casing, oil cooler and different sump. Front cover on the engine is different. And various electrical differences though not all the above apply to all military land rovers.

My old SIII LWB 12V was ex-MoD and I`m sure the springs had an extra 2" on civvy ones.
Although...I didn`t see many of them when I worked in the trade (MVS ltd 1999-2003) as they`d mostly been sold by the time I started there. I think the SII`s were mostly cast in favour of the LWT.

24v electrics prob the only real major difference.
not all of course there were some 12v ones too. lighting circuits are diff.
and a lot of civilianised ones have been converted to 12v anyways.
the rest is fairly minor stuff.

i would have sed that most mil landies wur 12 volt and thats from abrt 10 years of working on them. not too sure on all the differences as me egg perience of civvy landy is some what limited

I reckoned that about 3/4 of the LWB ones that passed thru our hands were 12v. LWT`s probably about half. All of the 101`s and series/101 ambulances were 12v.
Were you in the mob then Slob?

thanks for your help now i know theres not 2 much differance between the mil/civ versions im well pleased with landie thanks again

it depends what you have. mine is an ex military swb series 3 but is civvy spec. the only difference to the civvy version being the nato tow hook and electrics, the arctic heater unit and the battery has been moved from under the bonnet into the rear load area.every thing else is standard civvy landrover.
