Hi All,

I have recently damaged the lower tailgate panel on my Evoque centrally just below the number plate, it's put a hole in the plastic the size of an orange. I have seen a replacement for sale on FB, and as far as I can see its two 10mm bolts each side unclip the struts and disconnect the wiring.
Problem is access to the wiring, I've slipped the ceiling lining down a little but It looks like all the connections are in a section I cant access, plus will the lock in the replacement tailgate (2012 Dynamic Orkney Grey) be recognized by the central locking system in my car.
Does anyone have a link or advice on this please.

Thanks Graham.

To get the wire loom out of the tailgate you have to cut the window out.
Drop the headlining out to take the loom out of the car.
Get a tailgate that matches your spec, as it's possible the loom and catch will not match which result in having to cut the window out anyway.
Electic closing tailgate catch is different to manual closing tailgate..

Is it possible to remove the part so far and then undo the plugs maybe? 🤔
If in doubt about the locking mechanism then put your old unit back in. The lock should be the same unless there is a soft close feature.. Best check to be sure the part numbers are the same. 👍

The loom will be different for each catch.
If OP has electric closing and the new tailgate has manual then he will need to swap the loom which means both rear screens will need to come out to remove the loom from the tailgates.. I am reasonably confident the looms are not the same.
The actual catch can be swapped as the taigates are the same, as long as a 1212 and 2014 car are the same body style.

I can imagine the differences 😂

Hi Guys
Just to let you all know, I have now had my replacement tailgate fitted, all the wiring was indentical (donor vehicle 2012 dynamic fitted to 2014 Pure tech) My vehicle had the camera wiring in the roof so we connected it to the replaced tailgate wiring loom. The camera doesn't work so I'm guessing it either needs to be programmed in or there is another component required like a cam control module.

Thanks for all your help

Gray

Just another note for any future reference, I stripped down the damaged tailgate today. The wiring loom can be removed without taking the glass out, there is only one internal fixing in the side frame, if you remove the heated rear window connection covers and unclip the HRW connector you can snip the cable tie and then just pull the whole thing out.

Gray.
