Hi A very good idea which I had already proposed to her but she politely but firmly refused (very ungrateful I know). To be fair my freelander is looking a bit tired as in the past few years I have used it also for all those necessary runs to the local tip. I have maintained it though and it has been super reliable, it's on 150k and still going strong. I have bought her the evoque and atm she seems happy with it, I just hope it lasts as I am a bit apprehensive about the reliability issues I have been reading about? Well luckily she won't need the boot for pushchairs as her kids have outgrown those now. Yes they do look nice but I prefer the discos.

Hi yes I make you right she is very much the sort that has to make her own mistakes, and (can you hear my teeth chattering) at the thought of my hard earned departing my account through no fault of my own?Unfortunately daughters are always right, right until that I told you so moment (that we dare not actually say). I think you may just have to let her learn the hard way and prepare your bank account for the hit

I have been on compare the market and we managed to get her insured.She has 5 years no claims.
unfortunately too late to convince her away from the evoque as she is now the proud owner of one. her insurance is £149 per month. She will have to pay for that herself. I just hope the car will last and not let her down.

Hi Tony's daughteras a female LR owner here I've had friends that have had evoques. They are a pain to park they don't actually have much boot space for shopping. Yes they look nice but I have gone for a Freelander 2. I can get lots of shopping in and it's more practical. Also if a tyre goes you are looking £150 a pop at least. The touch screen can be a pain in the backside too.
You can get a same year Freelander with same engine with more extras than the pure for the same sort of price.
However I chose my car for utility for my needs though you may want it for other means.
Thank you so much for your post, however I have seen this a bit too late unfortunately as I was forced to do the dirty deed and she is now the proud owner of an evoque. I just hope it will be reliable. Thanks again

ouch, £1788 per year , at least she’s paying for it, lol , mines £41.00 per month
as u now have the motor if I may suggest buying a diagnostic reader as the dashboard will light up every so often, just a good way to say money from garage costs

Blimey, if she is old enough to have kids out of pushchairs, she should be buying her own cars. I made sure my kids understood that as adults they had to make their own way through life.

I don't think that's follows the electronics are very different they got different engines and the electronic rear diff has known issue.
The only well know freelander 2 fault relates to the electronic steering column failing to unlock thus rendering you stranded but its a volvo supplied part so can't blame lr for that entirely

Wonder if you bought a FL2 she would notice the difference? Tell her it’s a mk1 or something. They are very nice to drive, reliable and popular with ladies. If her heart really is set on an Evoque may aswell get it over and done with, children usually need to make the mistake themselves before they learn.
