But, why does ABS operate without problems...?
Does the following occur with your car...
1) When you turn the ignition on the ABS, TC & HDC lights light up.
2) After a few seconds the TC & HDC lights turn off but the ABS stays on.
3) After you start the car and begin to move the ABS light turns off.

But the yellow car icon is still on.

I have read real-time data from ABS. Wheels sensors and brake pedal switch working correctly.
The switch located on the gear lever...I don't know how it's called in English... downhill switch ? Could this be the cause of the problem? I didn't check it.

According to Rave, there are 2 reasons why the HDC Fault light alone would be lit...
1) Sticking Throttle
2) Implausible gear position input
None of the codes or descriptions above describe either of those.

Edit : Just noticed a 3rd reason "HDC Relay Fault" - which does sound similar you your initial description.

Incidentally - I don't believe that either of the code readers you have tried are properly compatible with a 2001 Freelander as the Freelander is pretty propriety and you need one that's specifically for Freelander.

There are a number of "home" devices available such as Hawkeye, Lynx, iCarsoft to name a few. Be careful with the iCarsoft i930 though as someone has reported on here that it does not work properly with the Teves Mk20 ABS used in 2000 to 2002 cars.

The I930 works fine on my old (now mother in law's) 2001 V6. It sees all ECUs except for the auto box TCM.

Launch x431 and Delphi DS150E workings correctly with the Freelander 1. Problem is with the interpretation some DTC codes. All tests and real-time data are read correctly.
I have Freelander 2001 year and for DS150E I have to engine set 2002 year because for the 2001 year is only petrol engine and for ABS I have to set to 2001 year.
Launch x431 does everything automatically, works correctly but it also has a problem with DTC interpretation like the DS150E.

Have you checked to see if there is a throttle pedal switch? If it's there, is it working?
Have you measured the DC resistance of the HDC relay coil?
Have you checked the reverse lights aren't stuck on?

If the diagnostic device doesn't give you the correct information, you need to check the necessary components the old fashioned way. ;)
