Freelander 1 Error C1178 - "Brake light Relay electrical failure" ?

I have error C1178. Launch says "Brake light Relay electrical failure". But this is not true because I changed this relay and the error still exists. The relay works correctly. Where is the problem? Maybe it's a sensor on the brake pedal?

The error code needs to be cleared electronically by a code reader ...

According to this, and I don't know where they get their info from, but on Freelander 2 C1178 means "Rear left sensor - wheel speed continuity"...

In fact all references to C1178 I can find are for the Left Rear ABS sensor.

Initially he used a Launch device and then a DS150E.

Neither of these are compatible with a Freelander I don't think - although they may pick up some Teves ABS info and possibly the EDC - but whether it can interpret what ever it picks up - it looks not!

It quotes the code as meaning "BLS electrical fault (brake light switch?)". Its quite a long thread - I haven't read where that description comes from. The brake switch is the most common fault with the ABS system on Freelander (and probably most cars).

I should have read the post more thoroughly GG.
A dedicated LR code reader would be the best bet really. I suspect it's a wheel sensor, looking at the initial code though.

Are you sure ABS is working correctly?
