the high sulfur content gives the best gear contact protection but does eat yellow metals it not necessary in lrs to have such extreme lubricant in diffs or t/box

Agricultural engineers also stock 15w/40 engine oil which I use, wouldn't recommend universal oil if possible. The oil I use can is extended use so the oil change can be doubled on the engine. They mostly sell 20 ltr cans of oil but, that's not a problem with the amount of gear oil you have to use toping up Landies. Even if you don't use it all going halves on buying gear & engine oil can save you money

Its about time i gave the Landy a complete oil change.

Im going to do everything, Tbox, Diffs, Gearbox, Engine.

Just want to check this is ok for the Tbox AND Diffs.

Buy Smith & Allan Hypoid Gear Oil EP90 API GL-4 online | Automotive Oil | Smith & Allan

and this for Gbox

Buy Smith & Allan ATF DII (Dexron 2) ATF D2 online | Agricultural Oil | Smith & Allan

This for Engine

This seems a pretty reasonably priced place to get it im going to buy 20Ltr barrels so ive got enough for a few changes.

You need GL4 NOT GL5 for the Transfer Box.

Bugger - used GL5 as stated in the Landy manual:
gl5.jpg

theres no difference in metals used ,selector fork and diff fork are the same from the first to last

I was lead to believe that the additives in some GL5 oils can leach the copper from the bronze bushes in the transfer box (where used), on some of the older models. Not drastic but can cause wear over a long period

from what i read, they changed the formula in later gl5 so it isn't so bad on the bronze.... but who knows!
