Gravesend is best avoided too, or anywhere else in that general area, come to that.
I'll pass that on as well! not that it'll make much diff to my Frog friend!
I have no idea why he wants an engine of this type, he has lots of Defenders and a TD5 Disco.
I'm just trying to help out, without leading him down any garden paths!

Trouble is he is my nextdoor neighbour in the Tarn in France. so his seeing it run really isn't an option.
the ad says "tested" etc.
But at the end of the day he would be buying it over the internet so the risks are fairly obvious. TBH I don't really know what he expected me to do. I did discover that they have a branch in Frogland so I gave him their number and left him to it.
I'd be wary of the engine solely knowing about the bust cranks issue.

Don't they sell engines in France, then?

Obviously ones for Landy products are much rarer, and a hell of a lot more expensive. This company I discovered does have a branch in France, so I passed their phone number on to him and he is running with it. TBH I'd rather he did the work as I don't want to be responsible in anyway for him buying a turkey. But I do sympathise. Come to think of it, I don't know why he doesn't know the same guy as I know who is only 20 miles down the road. But I don't think he'll do engines as recent as this. He kinda stopped at TD5s.
Thanks for giving me a little bit of a kick in the head in this regard. I'll tell him about the more local guy, he may know someone a bit more local.
Cheers!

So who was it recommended this company? It has a good web site, but.

It now doesn‘t exist. There two address 17 High St, Gravesend, this is now a restaurant and 17 High St, Northfleet a couple of miles away, this is or appears to be a small rented office... both address as seen on Google maps.

So when dealing with any company thats unknown it alway a good idea to search Companies House fortunately that can be sometimes be my function at work before excepting a new contracts… to find out if they can pay us.

Company address: ENGINEICO LTD
64A CUMBERLAND STREET, EDINBURGH, EH3 6RE

Edit due to typo, street number now 17 and not 11 😢

Hi Discool.
the guy who asked me to look into them was the guy who wants to buy the engine and he found it on ebay.
I note that all the companies house stuff makes no mention of a branch in France. I have no idea of if it would /should or not.
I'll pass this info on to the bloke.
Thanks though for putting this effort in.

I've just sent my neighbour links to the stuff you put up.
It does appear to be on the point of being struck off, and has only recently staved it off on a technicality.
Maybe one of the addresses is a postal address and he has a yard elsewhere.
But it looks well dodgy so I have told him that I personally wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.
He is talking about taking the broken engine out and fixing it. It belongs to his son so taking the engine out to look at it will cost him nothing. He's a competent LR mechanic but mostly on the older stuff. I expect anything beyond a TD5 would be very difficult for him. He doesn't even know the TD5 well!
Once again thanks for doing what I ought to have thought of doing. duuuuH
;););)

And following on from the Heads Up given by @discool I found this.
Which gives a totally different adress yet again. Which is a private house. I think I may have actually found it on google maps becaue there is one that has about 4 Landies on it's land.

Cheers mate.
but it's for a Frog guy, so not a left hooker. I'll let him know. After all he recently bought another 110 from the UK.
BUT registering them over there can be a real problem.
However maybe worth it just for the engine!:):):)
Stan
I should explain myself better, what I meant was he could buy the whole car and use just the engine, that way he could be sure it was good before fitting it to his car.
How much was the engine from the gravesend place, can't be far of the price of this whole car?
New tyres as well.

Could be the owners home address?

As I said "may be worth it just for the engine". He wouldn't be in the slightest bothered about driving it down to his place and then scrapping it. You should see all the old Landies he has lying around!
And yes the price is very cheap and only a little more than the engine he was originally looking at.
I think he is watching this thread and if he isn't I'll point out to him that it might be a good idea even though his English isn't very good.
Ta for the interest.:)
