Hello

you have probally seen the thread i have been posted regarding problems with oil in air filter.

I have alot of good advice regaing this and i might replace the engine but cannot make up my mind to just run the engine with this problem can anyone help me weigh up th pros and ons of this?

If i was to fit new engine what engines would fit besides 2.5 TD ?.

would a 300 TDI engine fit if so what alterations would be required and what are these engines like ??

i dont even know if i have a panic on about nothing but i am told this is a problem with 90 2.5 TD engine?? some say the engine will carry on with no problems as long as i look after it etc?

What should i do???:(

Well an update my 90 engine is dying fast starting to sound worse each day!!

I have got an Defender 200 TDI engine on its way with 67000 miles on clock thank god!!

But the engine sounds like piston slap or crank will be the first to go...moral of the story know ya landrovers and also faults and dont do like i did rush in were fools fear to tread!!..never mind expensive lesson learnt.

As well to take somone with experiance to look over ya buys..but also anoying when the person covered up the problem by bunging up the air filter as it was passing oil to air filter ...crafty bugger!!!

Thats not good.

My Range Rover had no air filter to hide the fact the engine was in a poor state (Thankfully I have the knowledge and exprience to fix it.) Now the holes need welding up

you will love the 200 tdi is a very solid engine have one in my disco and one in my wifes 90 defender both economical both will be staying with us for a long while yet i got my disco when it had 62000 on clock that was 3 years ago and is still fine easy to repair and service parts a not to bad you can modify alot and there is like most landy engines alot more power and torque you can take out off it regards colin;)

Cannot wait to get the defender 200 tdi fitted...

sad to see the old girl on the drive:(

What modifications can i do the upgrade the engine lads????

-Alu intercooler (~£400 not fitted)
-Tune the fuel pump
-Silicon turbo hoses
-Sports exhaust

All of which need to be thought about thoroughly, since they cost money and may put extra stresses on the engine. The exhaust and hoses, obviously won't since they are addressing gas-flow problems.

Well my new engine is on its way : Defender TDI and it will be great to get the old girl back on the road after having to sit and stare at her on the drive!!

I hav had to suffer borrowing a car with comfy seats and no noisy engine!!

I dont like em and prefer my landy anyday ya can stuff ya cars!!

PS on the last post what do Silocon Hoses do for your engine?

And what would a sports exaust for BHP if you can fit to a TDI???

The standard rubber hoses can flex when the turbo sucks for air, which reduces the diameter of the hose. This obviously means less air being drawn in.
They also split over time, and are affected by oil.

The silicon hoses do not flex as much, and last much longer.
