Engine wont start, Electrical problem?

So I was coming back from a short drive and suddenly there were 2 loud bangs (misfires?) with puffs of smoke out the exhaust straight after, then the engine cut out and refused to start again. The starter motor is fine and when a attempting to start will turn the engine over. The lights signals etc work, but no batt voltage comes up or anything changes on the dash inc fuel gauge. None of the pumps under the bonnet are going and windscreen wipers arent going too. This makes me think it is an electrical problem, anyone else got any suggestions. If you need more info just ask.
Its a 1988 110 3.5 v8 with 95k miles.

Checked the fuses?

Earth strap, wire dropped off the back of the ignition switch or ignition switch itself goosed, relay or fuse gone???????

Sorry forgot to say, fuses are all fine.

Main relay? Got sparks, fuel, etc?

Thanks, you got it right, one of the wires had dropped off the back of the ignition switch.
