Hi folks,

A very silly question but I'm not mechanic, can one of you fine folks tell me what type of engine I have in my Defender 2.5 TD LWB please?

Sadly I'm looking to sell my landie and I've been asked what engine type is in it. :-(

Hopefully a picture is attached.

Thanks in advance for your pointers.

Cheers

Steve

Hi,

My Defender is a P reg, 1996.

Thanks for clarifying the 300tdi engine type....next one is what is an EGR? :)

Cheers

Steve

Sorry - should have explained

Quite a few of them have had the EGR removed - the fact that it is there perhaps shows it's orginal/not messed about with.

Some 300 TDIs didn't have them fitted at all - my early one hasn't, so possibly also points towards it being a later engine

Hi,

Thanks, a bit of googling and yes I understand its purpose now. Are these engines rare with the EGR hence your comment about not selling it cheap if at all? I honestly know very little about Defenders so any guidance would be appreciated.

The only other thing I know about mine is apparently it has a Salisbury chassis? Does that make sense?

Thanks again,

Steve

if its 110 it will have salisbury rear axle ,sorry engine not rare, often a tin blanking gasket is fitted between egr valve and manifold ,to stop loss of pressure through leaking valve and to stop inlet manifold coking up as oil passed by turbo is baked in manifold by hot exhaust gasses been recirculated through inlet

How many miles is it good shape and what is the installed equipment
like heated rear window type of seat covering that type of stuff

Its a bit of black magic tricky engine fingy that recirculates exhaust gases and gives you more bang for your buck.
One thing it dont do is give more "bang". It stifles combustion and reduces exhaust temperatures to limit nitous oxide emmissions at the expense of engine power. Where abouts in Surrey are you cos thats where I am near Guildford.
