hi all lm new here l sort of stumbled across this forum while trying to find a rear diff for my freelander (1.8 petrol r reg) anyway l found a diff but on the way back l heard a bang from the engine drove another 5 or 6 miles at 90mph but when l slowed down to come off at my junction the car stopped, l was towed and have been told from 2 different garages the engines dead but l was also told a rover218i engine would fit with slight modifications then l was told it wouldnt it had to be a rover 75 anyone got any ideas or am l fighting a losing battle with the freelander (bought private sale week ago n taking him to small claims court grrr)

thanks all :D

if subject to SCC then dont touch it!

best injun to replace with is a TD4 - or a rover 220 turbo. Neither of which are easy jobs.

mind you - "heard a bang from the engine drove another 5 or 6 miles at 90mph" - I think you are an idiot!

oh dear, what do you expect.

" l heard a bang from the engine drove another 5 or 6 miles at 90mph"

so what do you think the bang was?

and as for the 'idiot' no lm not but your entitled to your opinion :D

Hi there Chrisse! I dont know which engine will fit but im sure that some of the other guys will..But i would suggest if you are taking the other person to court you dont tell them you were doing 90MPH prior to the engine going bang...
For 2 reasons.
1* I think they may class it as abuse and it could go against you in the court

And

2* They will think you are a liar cos everyone knows a Freelander wont do that speed...Ha..Ha

Anyway goodluck and welcome

thanks for the advice (lm not actually taking him to scc for the engine) and hahahahahah@the speed afraid l learnt the hard way not to have a freelander grrrrrrrrrrrr:mad:

Just out of interest, Chrissie - had you checked the engine and diff oil levels between purchasing and driving this motor on its ill-fated journey

yes everything was fine mechanic told me it was a loose bolt that came off n summat else (l was having blonde day  )

well whatever you do DONT get anything done/fixed to the vehicle, make sure you document EVRYTHING thats happened and get a reputable mechanic to provide you with a comprehensive report on the vehicle - if you ever get to court it's usually the peeps with the biggest piles of papers that wins

and as has been said before dont tell anyone you drove fer 5 minutes at 90 after hearing a bang from yer engine - how much did you pay fer it btw ?
