oki doki...i bought a complete 2.5N/A donor engine when the head on mine cracked. Job now done, landy alive and enjoying playing in the snow.

I'm left with a decent bottom end that i will put a new/recon head on and sell, possibly a turbo head if that fits.

Now to make it nice and shiney, and sell quicker, i want to paint the bottom end. Always look nice in red or black. Can i use Hammerite for this or is there a special paint thats resistant to the temperatures the engine will reach?

Thanks in advance...

I've used Japlac in the past with great results but it's time consuming to apply.
Most rattle cans give a good finish and the paint wont burn off, try emulsion on the exhaust manifolds as it wont burn off, discolours sometimes but you can just slap another coat on:D

is it really worth it?..the enjin aint gonna fetch a fortune anyway, why spend all that time cleaning, degreasing, and painting just to make it look a bit nicer.seems like a lot of bother for not much return to me.

Believe me , it'll be worth it , use a cheap rattle can and primer first.
I've done loads of engines like this and the paint stays on fine, every race mini engine I built years ago was a different colour so as I knew which bit came from which when I stripped and stored the bits.

yeh but on a landrover enjin thats gonna get coverd in muck mud n ****e,and more than likely have the odd oil leek..is it really worth it?

It's called job satisfaction to paint something that sometimes no one will ever see. Like takin the lable off parts before fitting, pride in what you are doing.:)

he certainly wont see it hes selling it:D

Thats right, limited market over here, so if i do the job right and it looks good it'll sell quicker....i know it is maybe just putting a bit of extra time into it but lets be honest, first impressions count, so the extra 2 hours or so will be worth it. I wont sell something i'm not happy with, only comes back to bite you on the bum later!

i used some letterbox red paint from the local pound shop on my mini engine looked great didnt flake or owt well that was until the ronrod removed some of the block lol

Once it has been degreased and painted, the engine will be MUCH easier to clean down next time.

And a nice smart red engine looks lovely .... AAaaaaaahhhhhh ......

But if you feel a bit girly, paint it pink!
