engine knocking top end i think

hi, new to the site got a p38 running sweet then when i turned the engine back on it was knocking from the top after a good look at the possibles I took the roker covers off and started the engine no oil coming up as any one had this problem need some advice cheers kev

how long did you leave it running without the covers? was there oil in the top of the head have you pressure tested the oil system, done a oil and filter change recently?
