300Tdi ding ding?

Hi guys.

I started up me landy this morning and theres a ding ding noise sounds like a bell ding dong from around the front of the engine. After a few mins it went. I had a good look around and all looks good.

Anyone had this sound befor?

Next time it makes the noise, take the fan belt off and see if noise still there, plus you will then be able to spin all the pulleys by hand to see if any are rough.

I would be taking a look up the timing chest drain hole and maybe pop the round inspection palte off to see if there was any dust/metal filings etc.

Check the heat shield by the turbo, the bolts shear and it rattles as the engine warms up ...

Top hose on pulley?

Alternator fan loose.

You've ran over a midget campoanologist and he (she ?) is stuck in the top lefthand corner of the fan shroud.
Or it could be Tiddles, Mrs Curtain Twitchers cat, from number 32.
Perhaps all that's left of him is his collar ?

Anywat he, she, It, probably moved towards the engine under accelleration, got swiped by the fan and was flung out and onto the road.
No more ding-a-ling.
Check your sump for dents.
