engine idles erraticly

please help
my 1999 1.8 petrol freelander engine revs at 2500 and very slowly dies back to 1200, i have tried redex to clean the fuel system but it hasnt worked

Try typing Idle in the search function.. its come up a few times with lots of diff out comes from taking it for a long drive, throttle potentiometer and throttle housing.
I'm sure the eggspurts will have something to say once they log on.

i have just come home from stirling (a long way from orkney) and gave it a bit of a thrashing to clear it out

where abouts in Orkney are you ? - we are off up there at the end of this month

i live in orphir half way between kirkwall and stromness on the scapa flow side

i had the same problem and had to replace the thotle body 220.00 the orginal one was made of plastic new one new in metal so perhaps they had a problem with the other type.

common problem on the k-series with plastic TB, raid a 218/418 in the scrappy for a METAL TB

The butterfly valve could be stuck, plastic TB's 48mm warp if they overheat, alum TB's 52mm are from £120, extra horses as well.
First reset your potentiometer by, turning key to position II, press gas pedal to the floor 5 times in succession. switch key back to position 0, job done.

TB's are also prone to oil injestion - which buggers em up.
