Hi, have a freelander TD 2L 1999 that judders sometimes normally about 2500 rpm.
Had this back from the scanner, what would you check first please?

Injection timing deviation.
1)Break or short on line, plug connection or at needle lift sensor.
2)Engine speed derived from needle lift sensor signal is implausible when compared to engine speed derived from crank position sensor.

Sounds like the timing wire from No. 1 injector may have perished or come loose.
Hi, thank you for your reply. The connector did look bad so I cut it out and as much wire as i dare and soldered it back together. But unfortunately the fault still comes back after a few minutes drive. Could it be the actually injector at fault or is there another connector I could check?
Thanks Lee.

Dunno, can you see both needle lift and crank position sensors on live data on your diagnostic tool?

Presumably it is the injector 1 signal, but possibly the CPS. Does the rev gauge do anything 'funny' when the engine is having 'a moment'?

I don't know where the cabling from the injector goes, but can you follow it back to the ECU to see any damage? Possibly pull the connector from the ECU and make sure the pin connectors for the wire looks good (on both sides).

Ultimately it could be the sensor in the injector. I don't know what availability and price is like for them.

Hi, I should have started by saying the the juddering has disappeared after fitting a new MAF sensor.
The car now runs fine but still keeps logging the fault after a journey.
yes I can see the live data from both sensors.
cheers Lee.
