Sorry for the very dumb question, but cant find the answer anywhere.

I need to fit a new rad and flush my cooling system. How do I flush the engine through? Specifically what hoses do I take off and where do I stick the water hose. Do I just stick hose in top rad hose and flush through out the bottom one? Expansion tank has very dirty brown coolant in it.

Cheers in advance.

Best bet is some rad cleaner and plain water, run it for a day as per normal and then drain out and just fill with plain water do this a couple of times, then when water is clear enough add your anti freeze.
I have sued ctfr before i have also heard of people using washing machine soap powder etc.
300 must be bled correctly remove stat and rad top bung, the plastic ones are **** you can get brass ones
Fill rad via the bung hole when full refit the rad bung, fill up via the tank until it reaches the level mark, then REFIT the tank cap, then continue filling via the stat bung, this was garauntees no air locks, fit stat bung and away you go.
Failure to do it this way means your engine will get very very hot before the stat opens and then self bleeds

Many thanks Lynall very helpful.

My question though was a bit more dumb and about draining/flushing the rest of the cooling system, i.e. the engine. Do I drain the coolant from the engine via the rad hose. I guess with the bottom rad hose off it will drain the whole system? If I choose to flush it through, do I just stick the garden hose in one of the rad hoses, i.e the top hose and keep flushing till it runs clear out the bottom hose?

Sorry to be so basic but never done this before.

Flushing it with a hose wont get rid of all the dirt the chemicals will theres just to many nooks and crannies.
I cant remember if the 300 has a block drain but easieast way is to pull a hose off as you say

OK cheers dude. I think I will do new rad and P gasket at same time, so may try the washong powder trick. Allthough I read you need to use washing tablets not powder.

I would go for the powder as thats all the tablets are just compacted powder.

Cheers MHM, finally just managed to search out that nugget of info.

This is a job I keep putting off as I know it makes sence to do my leaking P gasket at the same time and it's a job I'm very nervous of taking on incase I **** it up:eek:
