There's a serious amount of angry pixies in the FL2 electrical system.:eek:
The alternator cable is the same size as the starter cable, it's actually the same cable, with a ring connector for the starter, sticking out the side, while the cable continues on to the alternator.
 
I'm now having a nostalgic moment reminiscing simpler times with our 300tdi discovery, which only needed 3 wires to make the engine run, ground to battery, starter, stop solenoid...
proper engine only needs an earth and a positive to the coil, proper engines have a winding handle to get them going ;)
