Engine Emissions Warning Light Comes on- Engine Won't Start

Hi all, I have a 2007 Freelander 2 which has recently failed to start on 3 occasions. The Engine Emissions Warning Fault (AMBER) comes on and after several attempts/10 minutes or so the warning disappears and the car starts/works fine.. Worryingly it has cut out whilst driving on two occasions and displayed the same warning. Any ideas? Has anyone experienced something similiar? Thank you for any advice you can provide.
