Can anyone help, Im putting my series 3 diesel engine back in to connect with the gearbox,again, last time I had a couple of mates to help this time Im on my own. I have a hoist etc just need some tips/ideas to make the job easier and less stressful

well i did it the othere way round alone with a hoist, it would help to get the engin kind of balanced so you can rock it easily up and down to align clutch, also have the hoist positioned towards gearbox so its trying to engage without you pushing it

if the splines dont engage you will need to turn engine - crank pulley or gearbox- in gear and push landy back or forward

cheap **** load leveler from machinemart is a god send on engine crane

I'm a tight git so I dont use nice tools.
To angle the engine presuming its hanging on 4 ropes you could place a big screwdriver etc in the ropes at the front of the engine, then wind it around to shorten just those 2 angling the engine, works well for me.
Probably not a brilliant thing to do, if you get it wrong you might get smacked in the face with your 'driver, or one time when I did something similar it gets launched an amazing distance.

cheers guys. firstly i have to say that me fella logged in as me as it is he who is having issues. we've had that bloody engine out 3 times now, once to rebuild, then to replace as the block cracked and now for a great oil leak! i think we need more muscle than one big biker and et moi!

I couldnt get my gearbox and engine to go together.

Spline wouldnt line up and I was getting annoyed.

If you connect up the starter motor with the engine in place and just ticlkle the engine over the splines line up and every thing goes together with a bang.

This worked for me and made the job so much easier!

You could a simlar thing by tekking the plugs out and turning the engine with the starter handle a smidging.
