IIRC the 'real' way, if you're looking to replace them with new, is to remove the whole bumper. Two bolts in the centre, and two towards the end looking from the chassis towards the back, IYSWIM. Then the caps are held onto a small bendy metal plate with self tappers.

Easiest way I've found is to just go a little harder and deeper whilst off-roading ... ;)
 
Actually, I got that wrong ... the two centre bolts are for the towbar, not the bumper ... it's just the two bolts inboard of the lamps in the bumper.

Been a while since I lost one, so just had a quick looksee ... ;)
 
couldnt really see the damage on mine(theres more than enough already), 306 was a mess near side rear panel
 
got nice braND NEW CLUSTER AND END CAP OUT OF IT.FIRST BRAND NEW THING ON IT IN YEARS.ohh caps is on
