hi,
Parked the V8 disco2 on monday morning locked using fob as usual.

went to go out today and nothing, wouldn't unlock . red led on fob was lighting but nothing happening.

unlocked with key opened door alarm goes off (as expected) key in ignition turn it on and still nothing .

been reading threads on here and I'm thinking one of two possibles .

alarm receiver or low main battery. I haven't noticed any issues with battery , always started on the button. I have had problems with leaking sunroofs so may have corroded receiver??
anyway went to main stealer to get eka code expecting a 4 digit code and was given two leters and 2 numbers??

when i questioned it I was told they think it goes 1-9 then a = 10 b = 11 etc. does this sound right????
I'm off out into the cold and rain to try but thought I would post to see what people think about it...
thanks
Andy

thats what I thought, he was a bit embarrassed and said if it didn't work to call them tomorrow as they will have full staffing levels.
also a possibility that it goes 1-9 with 0=10 a=11 b=12 so will have to try both.

Andy

well the code they gave me worked and a=10 b=11 and so on. took the code 1st time and after the obligatory wait I got in and started up fine , took the car for a 1/2 hour drive to make sure battery charged ok came back switched off. went to lock the car and nothing! wouldn't lock with the fob had to use the key. this makes me think its the receiver as I know both fobs were working no problems , unless anybody has any other ideas????
this is going to be a PIA as I will have to go thru this every time .
Andy

If the EKA code works but the keys don't, it's more likely the fobs have lost the code than the receiver is down.

Both are possible, but key fob battery etc more likely, especially as you charged the car battery up on a run.

does sound like the receiver/fues box but you realy need to get it pluged in i got a replacement off ebay for £25 that would be cheaper than having it pluged in if it works but it still may need to be pluged in when i did mine it was done the same time as the bcu and used my nanocom so dont realy no how you go about chaning it buy its self

new receiver is about £35 from stealers , where is the fuse for the alarm? the alarm still worked when i opened the door so i assumed the fuse would be ok.
Andy

Peter, I'm sure the fob batteries are ok as I only changed them a few months ago and they have both been working fine, How could the fob 'lose' the code and can it be re aligned??

Andy

the passinger compartment fues box (not a fuse) also controls parts of the central locking and the imobiliser

but as lister diesel says it has been reported before about the keys for some resen needing reprograming

apologies martin for questioning your typing skills:D:D I haven't heard of that one before?
I found a thread about programming keys that involved holding down the bonnet switch and turning the ignition on and off several times until the horn sounds and you enter a 'learning mode' whereupon you can push the remote button to re synch????? desperate times...................

dont think that works on d2...i had/have same issue...changed RF receiver (straight swop-no coding needed) as it was full of water-no difference...its been narrowed down to the BCU or corroded under binnacle fuse box, either or both have water damage...the car wont let testbook talk to the BCU at the moment so i have no choice but to replace it & work from there if necessary...it is also a common prob to have a chafed earth wire in the A post loom...Grrrrrrrr
Never come across an EKA with letters supplied.

Hexadecimal, as first post, the system is digital.

0-9 then abcdef

f=16 in root 10,
e=15
d=14
c=13
b=12
a=11

example: e3d7 would be

15 to the unlock position
3 to the lock position
14 to the unlock position
7 to the lock position

Don't forget to return the key to the neutral position at the end!

are you sure about that ?

are you sure about that ?

Nope :D

It's base 10 not root 10, doing something else at the same time and got crossed over.

I think they are the figures/system we used for our own vehicle, I have only got the decimal equivalents here, not the original letters and numbers.

If you've got a better/corrected version, please post it as I'm going from memory, it was June when we last used it!

well after thinking the eka code would let me be mobile at least I tried to use it this moring and nothing , couldn't get the eka code to work .
Holding the key in the unlock positition for 5 secss didn't respond.
Phoned LR and he thinks my car battery is flat , caused by the short that stopped the alarm working. Didn't want to pi** neighbours off this morning so cant open the door to check battery , have AA but no home start . A bit reluctant to tow 2 1/2 tonnes with no brakes or power steering.
Guess I'll try to get at receiver and check for corrosion and then the bcu
Happy new year!!!

btw a=10 , b=11 and so on my code had c in it and it was 12

I cant believe it , I have just pulled in behind the disco in the wifes car , got out pushed the fob and bingo , unlocked and started!!!!! Now I'm really confused, only thing I can think is the short has dried out so making the circuit again, I'm guessing that its the receiver as the fobs are working?? although I bet when I need to get to work at 5 it wont work again................
