Cleaned a few out the weekend

Why do you have so many? Surely you don't have 4 TD4 Freelanders.

Hi Nodge.
Each year we have several local R40 MGZT meets, we work on our cars owners whom wish to attend do so free and we all help each other out, at one stage I had a R40 Tourer diesel, my son as MHZT diesel, the FL1, I have 6 in total because sometimes a local owner whom may want to service his car therefore we can change over the manifold and EGR for clean ones during that service etc.
I was thinking of running a FL 1 meet earlier this year along side it but never got round to it, something to think about in near future for sure if enough FL1 & FL2 owners were interested, we have free T4 sessions, retro fit power fold mirrors, retro fit electric memory heated seats, retro fit fuel burning heaters, fit refurbished fans, the list is endless, link below if you wanted to have a nose ;)

Sounds like an interesting meet. I used to attend similar events in the 90s with the Triumph Sport Six club. We'd do similar things, helping with issues, a kind of shared knowledge thing.
If you do put on a FL1, I'll try to get up to it. I myself could do with a T4 session and I'd happily work on other FLs that turn up on the day ;)
Obviously I'd have to OK it with her indoors first.
Keep us posted.

Yuk!
I did one and that was enough, I do have a spare though and was thinking of cleaning it out sometime as well. Would you mind sharing your method? I tried soaking mine in paraffin but is was still a pig to clean.
I soaked mine in Kerosene overnight before washing it with hot water and washing up liquid. I then used the Karcher to finish it off.
It looked like new inside and out.
Once it's cleaned initially, subsequent cleans would be easy. ;)

Hi Nodge
I will get it sounded out for maybe the September or October meet, as a few of us already come in our FL anyways to carry our tool boxes etc, but you are more than welcome to have a drive over anyways Arctic2

No secret and quite simple big buster oven cleaner form the pound shop, maybe now and again I pinch the wife Cillit bang, let it soak either over night or for a least 5 hours then jet wash it out, I have an old garden barrel I put it in which as a window cut into it, raised off the floor on bricks which sits on five inches of gravel in the corner of the garden out of the way, holes drilled into the sides two inches from the bottom to loose out the water, the manifold sits on top of a milk crate once it is cleaned out I then after use a kids beach spade to put the gunk into plastic container and take it down the council tip, job done

I have started using shell V power and it does make a lot of difference but I find the best way to get more mpg is to snip a bit of lead off my right hand foot LOL

Save me going through all the posts. Where will these meets take place? I live in Fife and I'm interested.

I find that after doing this mod I get much better heat but not nearly enough as other cars I have had.

Yea. Must admit although I was only getting the temp gauge up to the lower arrow just above the blue and now as you see is above the wavey line..... the heater is still not the best I've ever had.
Still it was so easy to install. I just could not be arsed with the proper stat change. Well not this time of year.

Last two company cars I've had, a Renault Megane and a Skoda Octavia had rubbish heaters, barely luke warm and take 5 or 6 miles to get there. The Freelander TD4 heater is brilliant by comparison now I've done the thermostat cheat.

My wife drives an old 04 Zafira and the heater is awesome.
Doesn't take very long to get decent heat after start up on a cold day too. :D

The V6 has a fabulous heater. But is would as the engine runs at around 100°C. The TD4 runs in the mid 80s so heater performance will be lower. If you are looking for maximum heat. Set the recirculation to on. This then warms, already warm air, increasing temperature. ;)
