Ok been lookin in search but cannot find it, long time ago ,maybe not on landy zone ,someone wrote about blockin orft the egr valve ,think they used a ball bearing , however this is my question, why do it and what are the advantages or disadvantages ,and what do ya all think [gonna get slaughtered on that last bit]. . .

I had a fiddle wi that! No the EGR..... vac pipe off, Vac pipe on,
Cant say i noticed any diference in the performance like some claim, So its back to how it should be.. And it dont chuck so much ****e out the exhaust with it on.
It IS worth having the valve out (A few bolts) and give it a good clean up every now and agen, make sure the valve moves as it should ;)

Thang yer very much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW the engine ecu controls the EGR valve.:)

Depends on how you see things, the original Td5 shop manual claimed the Egr system reduced Nox emissions by up to 80%.I tend to be a bit "septic" of claims like this that arent easy to prove, but if it reduced them by 40% it has to be worth doing.I've had several bits of banter with people claiming that the system reduces power and increases fuel consumption.
Most of my work is with Td5,Td6 and RR LP's - on these cars I have had testbook on doing live data displays - to check Egr operation. If it is working properly I cant find any measureable difference - including acceleration runs on my "roadtest" route.
Seeing as Scandinavia blames us for their acid rain,( From memory ) I cant see any reson to disable it.(When driving the Egr valve is open just above idle and on the overun - not when you are accelerating or driving up a hill.Just my five eggs worth - but it is based on a bit of research on several customers vehicles.

As I am a calm driver and the auto gearbox keeps my revs around 1800 to 2000 I guess my EGR would be open all the time ??

Then you can be happy that the recirculated gas are keeping your Nox emissions down to a minimum, you wonderfully green person !:D

Well, to be honest, earlier this week we got a free sample of "Läkerol" pastilles in our letterbox, since I've been eating of them I feel strange, also the wife looks in a strange way to me, I wondered why it was, until I took the above picture (via the mirror) of myself, now I seem to understand more about all this.:D :D :D
(Btw: today's our 42nd wedding anniversary, just had a dinner outside, was really nice, even though impossible we wished you all could have joined us).
