what is the actual purpose of blanking the egr off, i did so on mine as aparently its supposed to increase performance but made no difference on mine, is this 'mod' worth mentioning to the insurance company if theres no power gain or should i just take it off, ps should it have made much of a difference, cheers

The main reason I found for having an EGR is for reducing NOx emissions and to help in controlling the turbo's temperature, it's downside is stifling engine power and increased fuel consumption. I believe a lot of people also reckon you should flush out the intercooler as it also helps improve performance.

After doing our's I noticed the Disco is more eager on acceleration whereas previously she was quite sluggish. I'm yet to find time to do the intercooler.

Hi,

You only notice a difference if your EGR valve is broke, regarding increased fuel consuption id have to disagree with that as i am getting more mpg with mine done, not you don't need to mention it to your insurance as most garages do it if your vavle breaks.

No-one has mentioned yet that if you do block-off the EGR valve, you stop all the black tar-like gunk going into your engine - now that has to be a good thing!!

I found when I did one on my '98 Tdi Disco auto, it started a range of improvements which took my car from embarassingly slow to quite acceptable, for the total cost of about £50 !! (EGR blank plate & top hose, De-cat downpipe, new air filter).

Cheers all

Dave

If you get one for a Defender TDi 300 it should fit fine. £21.25+vat from Paddocks.

Or you can get the Disco non-cat downpipe for £60+vat, the choice is yours.;)
