EGR pipe is a goner

If its had its EGR blanked before the EU ruin the country does that mean it would still fail? :s so all the removed egrs would have to be replace

If you blank it with the penny trick, visually you can't tell, so if it's a visual only checking for presence it maybe ok. But if you have removed it and fitted one of those bypass things off Ebay, then they stick out like a sore thumb, and would fail. But we don't know yet if VOSA will take all the EU demands on board.

Wammers if I had a non egr enging fitted they are hardly going to tell the differance .

Three choices cut pipe in half block both ends with say a core plug or any circular type metal fit a new pipe hope egr Diaphragm holds out

Buy a pre 1999 range rover Aluminium air intake manifold and block the Exhaust manifold as suggested earlier And know one will be the wiser

I can't see this EGR check coming into practice !

You can't even see mine without removing the engine covers
So is the MOT man going to do all of that to check ??

2 pennies and few mins with the grinder - that sorted mine haha

I too belive half the mot checkers don't even know what a p38 engine looks like

Possibly true and it is all yet pie in the sky. But never the less is included in the EU regulations due to be introduced on or before Jan 2014. We will have to wait and see what happens. Apparently SRS warnings and Tyre pressure warnings due to be a fail as and from last Jan 2012 are still just advisories because VOSA can't make their minds up.Tyre pressure i believe has been put off until 2015 for cars made 2012 onwards, SRS is in dispute because no one can agree if a car with an SRS warning, is more dangerous that a car that has not got air bags. So the debate continues. Happy days.

+1 although when you say EU roads - I guess you mean the German part of the EU and not the rural parts of France or Italy lol

Well french motorways are bang tidy! So smooth and fast when dry and 70mph when wet makes sense! What are the rural roads? Slow?

Waste of cash, just remove or block the vacuum pipe that actuates the valve

VIN number tells them if it should have an EGR

Roads are great in SW France, even non autoroute. 130Km in the dry and 110Km in the wet on the autoroute. Lots of hidden laser speed checks now though.

Data you still got the Recirculation pipe tho and Dave its almost the same but its missing the Diaphragm that Contributes to the workings of the egr so its not Exactly like for like

The EGR pipe is still there but with the valve closed it does nothing.

Why tell people to block the metal pipe? In my view this can cause a hot spot rather than letting it flow if you can just block the vacume pipe can you just not pull a wire off the Solinoid ?

You can pull the wire off, but that's obvious. a slug of metal with a coat of slow tack super glue pushed down the rubber pipe and then re-fit the pipe and the whole thing looks fully functional. We have the new MOT regs here already.

If you have an earlier engine fitted it is tested to the regulations in force for the year of the engine. But you must provide paperwork to prove it.

Will that not cause an hot spot? The EGR port is then blocked by the EGR valve about 12 mm further along from where the penny sits. Same difference to me.
