Egr Blanking Mod

It looks like a decent kit. The blank looks substantial enough for the pipe clip to clamp on to. Does the clip feel like its tightening enough? Or does it slip like jubilee clips do sometimes?

Have you tried a smearing of exhaust paste on the flange prior to fitting?

Hi mate I didn't know about exhaust paste it is slipping and gas is escaping. What is exhaust paste and how do I use it. Sorry for being so thick. But I am totally new to all this. Whew I want to get the old EGR off ASAP and the new one back on. :)

If the clip is slipping when you're trying to get the last turn out of the screw I'd say a new clip is all you need.

Exhaust paste is sometimes used when fitting exhaust components together. It's just a tube/pot of heat proof sealant. You can get it from just about any car part outlet, even halfords. A quick smear around the pipe flange then fit the pipe to the EGR blank.

Some products like heat to harden so recommend getting the exhaust hot after applying the paste, others harden without heat. Best to follow the instructions on the label.

I introduced my German neighbour to the site last January being a good German he read virtually every thread and began to worry something he read in this thread rang an alarm.
His brother a BMW technician had made a mod to his EGR some three years ago, So we removed it for inspection what we found was a 22mm copper end cap nestling in the EGR gas intake pipe.
He had read in the thread that this would corrode away and do damage well after 3 years and 42000k there was minor pitting to one side but little else. What was evident was the difference it makes to the manifold. Since then I have modified both mine and my wife,s and a couple of friends TD4s using this method.

I will keep an eye on the EGR checking it every year or 10,000 mite then invest in a stainless cap there available just have an internal thread

Fitting my EGR blanking mod and cleaning the inlet manifold this afternoon. Does anyone know the manifold tightening up sequence as i can't seem to find it for the TD4 in the manual???

Hi Guys. I now know what the problem was with my EGR. The hose that connects to the EGR into the manifold had a very small hole in it. this is were all the problems were coming from and not a poor connection. I have replaced the hose no more problems. Job done. :)

Hi,

Since having mine fitted, my temp gauge sits around 10 o'clock position does this sound about right?

regards

No.....

New thermostat required?

Possibly.

Should be vertical. My '06 TD4 thermostat had failed in the open position, so it never go up to temperature. Never noticed it until the outside temperatures dropped.

Thanks Epicuser,
I thought as much after reading some posts, i'll get one ordered from Island4x4

'Tis a pig of a job. Some people managed to do it without taking half the engine to bits. Others fitted an inline gates one in the top hose.

I chose to have a garage do mine properly.

I'll have a garage fit mine also, had a look at it and i think it'll be too troublesome to even try.

I've finally got my EGR Blank to fit! Only querie is .... In your pictures you didn't show cleaning the port where the egr connects to the manifold,, I know there is a sensor at the other end of the port, is it ok to spray clearnr in there???

First job I will be doing when I get my freelander end of this week is change the manifold and egr for clean ones which I have spare, from my R75 M47 I will also changed the MAP sensor as this gets clogged up too.

I clean mine out with oven cleaner first then give it a good jet wash out then clean again with diluted costic soda then a final jet wash
