I've ordered an EGR blanking kit from Island 4x4.

Do you think it will make much difference to fuel economy and performance?

not unless egr valve is leaking or inlet clogged but a good idea to blank it,youll need a good 6mm allen key often helps to give bolts a good whacking first

I have already lubed it with some WD40 as I noticed it was a lil rusty. Just waiting for the kit to arrive in the post now.

No. But do it anyway as you will probably notice an improvement in engine smoothness.

If you want noticeable improvements, de-cat your exhaust downpipe. Paddocks do replacement ones for £16+vat Part number ESR 2297.

that is the Defender pn - the Disco one has a flexi in it. The defender one can be made to fit, but mite have probs with gearbox x-member.

it fits the same, as defender pipe is decat pipe ,jacking chassis up from axle helps fitting and you can leave out difficult mount at gear box cross member

There is no problem whatsoever fitting ESR 2297 to a TDi 300 Disco. As James said jack up the front chassis to give more working room.

Must have done perhaps 10 of these now, got it down to about 20mins !!!

De cat, de EGR and clean the intercooler inlet manifold, replace the top pipe with a defender one as it is a strait swap. And it will feel like a different disco and will return better fuel consumption and all done for about £20

Whats the best way to clean out the intercooler and the inlet manifold.
Obviously remove them, but how do you clean them out. Read somewhere to leave with petrol inside overnight or is there a cleaner somewhere.
Years ago I used to clean out the exhaust on a 2stroke motorcycle with an acid cleaner.

just letintercooler drain as will just be wet with oil ,i steam clean manifold but petrol/paraffin and good bottle brush would do it

Just fitted my EGR kit and BLOOOODY HELLLL it should not have been that hard....
Rounded off one of the Allen head bolts on the exhaust manifold.

Had to remove the exhaust manifold so i could get it in the vice!!

I have to be honest it did make it easier to fit the blanking plate.

re:allen bolts - They always are, mate. Bloody stupid choice of fastener . If you put any force on they round out,use and impact driver and you risk cracking the manifold, cut a slot in and they snap off........
