Hi Guys
Im looking at scrapping the 2.25 petrol that is in my 86" and fitting something a bit more modern. I have seen EFI conversions to 2.25s but would rather go for something entirely different. At the moment I'm thinking along the lines of a 2 litre zetec engine, I have a local engineering firm who I'm sure would be able to make an adaptor plate and modify a flywheel to fit ( I want to keep a series gearbox). I would like your thoughts though; would it be un-driveable ? or not suitable ? any alternatives along a similar vein ?
Thanks
Ed

I'd like a bit of a challenge, and want to make something a bit interesting. i know its not to everyones taste but id like my truck to look standard to the casual observer, but be pretty trick underneath.

In which case why not go all out and fit a big v8 and updated drive train etc?

Do you still drive it off road? As that may affect engine choice due to torque curve etc

Whats holding me back is that i don't want to cut up my chassis or bulkhead, and a 3.9 would eat a series box which would mean a new floor and tunnel to fit a later box in. I've just been reading about Discovery Mpi engines or rover T16 which sounds more suitable for an 86inch, and easier to fit ?
Ive attached a picture of his 3.9 conversion

I think you'll want to have a look at the revs where a zetec or similar deliver their maximum torque. There will be plenty of power, but you may have to rev it all the time, which won't be fun to drive. I guess it's possible to change the engine map to alter the torque curve if you're determined to use something modern. Having said all that, the V8 is great in a Land Rover - loads of torque at low revs, and sounds great. In an 88", you can put it into 4th at 20mph and just ride the wave.
