I have been reading this topic from afar with a large smile on my face
and loving every minute !!!
As someone who has a little knowledge relating to Becm's and related issues, I would like to throw my final two pennorth into the ring.
Each P38 has it's own unique Lockset Bar Code (LBC), which is on the LR database together with EKA and Radio codes etc. and is easily accessible by main stealers.
There is only ONE LBC which covers ALL keyfobs, variants 1,2,3 etc.
When the correct LBC is programmed into the Becm, individual keyfobs have to be synchronised..not programmed into the Becm which then automatically deciphers the individual keyfob sub code. Problems can arise however if two No. 1 or No.2 fobs exist and each key has to be synchronised before each use. The LBC gives the manufacturer the electronic keyfob code and the keyblade cutting profile.
As has been posted, these sets are for export LHD vehicles and therefore the drivers door lock being handed, needs to be modified and the barrels etc. swapped over. These are made from die cast material which is easily broken. The barrel assembly is retained in a "Tenon" and secured by two small, spring steel roll pins located in blind holes. Some people on here have removed them but it is not a job for the feint hearted.
The RF receiver is different to that fitted to the UK market, it is 315 Mhz as opposed to 433Mhz. The keyfob frequency will also be 315Mhz which is theoretically illegal in the UK.
Ideally, a main stealer should be advised of the new LBC and the LR database updated to show the change otherwise if new key(s) are required in the future or the code required for reprogramming a Becm the original (Old) code will be given, which will be useless.
Test Book cannot change the code in the Becm because the LBC can only be changed on an unlocked Becm...Test Book does not have the option to unlock a Becm, it can only be done with special software such as the SM035 module from Black Box (Faultmate). Several people on here have this software. Access to this function is only possible when the logic board has been removed from inside the Becm, unless the Becm has been previously been unlocked (Unlikely) and left in that condition.
From a personal point of view, taking all of the above into consideration from a time and cost situation it's a no brainer compared to the cost of purchasing a spare key from a dealer.

Anything is possible, may not be probable, if the facilities and equipment are available......large sledgehammer, set of gas bottles and a good burning nozzle, welder and a barrel or two of Guinness.

Exactly......As I said in a previous post, most of the extra keys never get used, they get hidden away and lost forever.
How many second hand P38 owners were handed a full set of keys when they bought the car ??? Not many !!....unless someone knows different and I reckon that most on here still have working, original keys.

I only got one key, and that did not work
while you here John a job i just finished and sent back that had a EKA fault ie, every time he entered his code the indicators flashed and the beep beeped but after entering the code his alarm still activates. ive disabled his immoboliser as he needed to update his ems into the becm as the EMS was showing just 22, its a diesel so needs the correct ems code in the Becm, i unlocked the Becm too, now it looks like im going to have to go 85 miles each way to be there to finish this task off. so have you had a RR that still activates the alarm even after a OK eka has been done? There i fell better now.

If Irish hadn't of posted in this thread you would still be "giving it large!". I'd say your one saving grace is that you agreed with Irish, as I have heard from numerous sources that he is the Bee's Knees when it come to Land Rover matters and aguing it would have been futile.
