Disco 1 easy one for someone here!

quick clutch related question, the thrust bearing/release bearing is rattling like a can being dragged down the road behind the car when sat ticking over. sometimes pushing and releasing the clutch pedal stops it other times it don't. so i assume thats on its way out however thats not my oddest thing or the question that i have lol

next odd clutch behavior, i have a VERY high biting point about an inch from fully released but gear changes vary some days i have to push the clutch to the ground to get a gear to change smoothly and others i can only get a smooth change from barley touching the pedal. but it dont seem to be riding when i come off the clutch it builds up the revs and speed together as i would expect. is the clutch also close to death!

as for the quick and easy one for someone can the biting point be adjusted or is it fully hydrolic and self adjusting?

ooo actually a second quick and easy question i'll throw out there, is my brake pedal meant to sound like a foot pump when i press it lol. and on the subject of brakes whats the best way to free the handbrake button, the one you push to release the handbrake i currently have to pull it out when i lift the handbrake to make it lock haha

gotta love a disco even if it does give you $h1*, bring on the repairs

Sounds like you are getting ready for a new clutch. Brake sound is diaphragm exhausting. Should be a spring to return hand brake button. Maybe the pawl mechanism needs some lube.

You won't like this, but that is likely you, not the clutch. It is fairly easy to perform a smooth upchange without using the clutch at all, down changes are more difficult as they require a throttle blip to bring the revs up higher than they were prior to commencing the shift. Simply a matter of matching engine & road speed correctly. I suspect a great many mechanics (and cheapskates) have driven many miles without any clutch control whatsover after fluid leaks, cable breaking etc.

lol i can change gear without the clutch quite well Seffy, but im talking about when i use the clutch. there is no grinding or harshness just a notchy feeling as it changes. im not talking race shifting here im talking regular "disco speed" changes. but i know what you mean about it being easy to change without it. my last car before this disco was a ford so im used to having to fix things anyway long story short i drove that thing around for about 4 months only using the clutch to pull off in 1st gear due to it being all rev and no go. changed it had it about 6 months after and got rid to get the disco. my confusion here is the fact that the bite seems REALLY high yet there dont seem to be any clutch ride when in a gear and coming off the clutch you get the pull you should get!
