Hi all,

Just getting in touch and hope you can shed some light on a problem I have with my suspension.

I have just changed my rear air springs because the rear offside bag was completely shot. Decided to do both because I felt it would be best. Got them changed with the help of some really useful threads on this site. My problem is that after changing them they inflated ok but unevenly as the old girl was listing to the offside. Got the easy unlock on it and it shows that the valves are either open or closed or both. Have read Wammers and irish's suggestions re diagnosing but not convinced that it's the compressor as I have recently changed the valve.

My question is. Why would the valve suddenly go just after changing the bags (if indeed it is that)? There aren't any other apparent leaks anywhere else so stumped why it should go suddenly when initially it worked ok albeit a bit on the p*ss!

Any thoughts

Cheers

Valves can't be open and closed at the same time, you have bad comms with the diagnostics. Must have green good idle at all times. Only way it can be leaning is if either you have a bad sensor or calibration is out. Maybe you have disturbed a sensor changing bags.

As above, you have either disturbed a sensor or knocked the actuator arm off.

Cheers both. I will look at that. Makes sense I guess. Will let you know what happens but just tried to start the bus and she is just sitting on the bump stops and don't move. Bit of head scratching later is in order I think. Thanks again.

Sounds like there is a leak. Do you have diagnostics?

I have been out now and checked the actuator arms. Nothing obvious! Managed to get it rising and falling on the easunlock but very very slow to rise. Have looked at her now and she is sitting down on the front offside corner. I have checked the pump and there is good input and output. I am thinking that the front offside bag also has a leak but can't see anything obvious. Think this sounds fair? I think the fact that she is sitting low at the front and slow to rise suggestsvthis but no obvious lowering all round having said that.

If the bags are original it's almost certain they are leaking. Design life is 7/8 years 80K miles.
When you say the compressor output is good, can you stop the airflow with a finger over the end of the blue pipe?

Yes I tried that and that is why i am thinking front bag. Seemed ok before I did the rear ones. The rear ones looked original and the front ones look fairly old. What would make one think valve block? I.e. What would you notice? I have had some fault codes that say valve open or closed but that seems consistent with a leak too.

Valve open/valve closed are often a sign that you have no communication with the EAS ECU. If you are using the free EAS software, you must have green "Good Idle" to have any communication.

Seemed to have a good green idle when I did it. Although at times when I checked the fault codes it turned red and stayed red. Thought it was something it does when fault codes have been checked.

You have a comms problem, check the OBD connector for corrosion.
Thanks Datatek

Will check this when I get back to Ireland for sure however I woudl have thought the RS software would not be connecting (initialised) and showing al 'FF' returns if there were comms problems ?

It's actually possible to get FF returns with no connection the car if the USB driver is no good.
