High all i have a Range Rover 4.0 1995,and when i start it the warning light on the dash goes out,and the (christmas tree) light sequence is low level light on..and normal level light flashing,as though the car wont lift to normal height.

have checked pump operation and can force it on with the software and laptop so it seems to be working ??

any help appreciated

Cess. :(

try slamming bonnet and drivers door to make sure they are shut. try to raise to high level and then back to normal also make sure yr in N just to confirm its none of the various safety quirks

How have you checked the pump operation? Have you checked the piston seal and cylinder for wear? It sounds like a knackered pump, it isn't delivering the pressure required to lift the vehicle.

How long has it been doing it? Could be a pin hole in an air spring not allowing it to properly inflate. Squirt each one in turn with a water spray and watch for bubbles - usually at the bottom end where they perish - while the engine's running. Unchecked, one day the whole beast could drop to its bump stops and shut the pump down until it gets re-set - and new airsprings fitted. (Talking from bone shaking experience the 20 mile drive home!!)

only been doing it for about a week..took to dealer and he said found nothing wrong did factory reset and all worked ok ?? when i got back in it was slow to inflate RF bag (but eventually did) pump was pumping to correct pressure (well over 120).then went ok for a couple more days now going "lazy" again on RF. still no ideas........

Your symptoms are identical to ours but it was the front left. No faults were apparent but the machine only checks the electronics and not for pinholes in the rubber which are not always apparent due to dirt build up and the self sealing qualities of rubber. It eventually started to hiss quietly (engine off after just parking) then it went completely. New bags then re-set and fine now. (The back ones will be next wait and see!)

thanks for reply Hippolover, i couldn`t find a leak and the garage i took it to couldn`t find one either (not to say there isnt one). anyway as i couldn`t spend anymore time on it and couldn`t get a confident fix....I have now converted to springs.....seem ok at the moment. and now i will check those airbags properly, before passing them on (they look quite new)....

cheers all for your help

Cess.
