Hi Gents, I have a problem with a rear height sensor. Bought a new one (dunlop) and sent it to the repairer who does most of the work on my rangy. He fitted it and it is worse. I spoke to Sam at Island 4x44 and he told me it is most likely a wiring fault so I wondered if any of you Gents had come across this problem and if there is a typical area you might identify where this fault might occur.

What is worse? The new sensor will need to be calibrated, they are not just plug and play unless you are very lucky.

How do you know you have a problem with a rear height sensor? Have you run diagnostics? If you have run diagnostics, what faults, if any were shown?

I have a 'Hawkeye' fault code reader that showed the fault as real left height sensor. it could not remove the fault so i bought a new unit from Island 4x4. However, when the local garage fitted it ( he did seem to know what he was talking about and mentioned calibration) it came back worse than it went in. I spoke to Sam at Island 4x4 and he reckoned it was likely a wiring fault , loose connection/break and that is what I am asking, has anyone come across this and an area to look.
Thanks in advance
Bill

I would say that other than corrosion in the connector, a wiring fault is unlikely.
With the RSW software, you can see live readings from the sensors which would confirm if a sensor was actually working or not, can you not do this with Hawkeye?

what is 'worse' ??????

What was it doing before and now after....????

I have asked that strange as it might seem, knowing what the problem is usually results in an answer. Maybe you Keith and i should organise a conference call so that all our crystal balls can work in unison. :D

Hi keith, I don't know if I can see live readings on Hawkeye, I will check and report back, corrosion sounds like a possibility however

Good luck. But what we are all dying to know is what the fault symptom is from a ride-height point of view not a "Hawkeye says" point of view.
Is it a drooping/too-high corner or what?

Lamps start normal then flash until the car moves then they go permanently on, text on dash says eas fault, no slow 35mph
That is a what I have just had on my project car, it was corrosion in the rear N/S height sensor connector. The car did not drop to the bump stops and did not flag the "Slow 35Mph" message, I did 200Km like that.

Thanks to Wammers and Datatek for your help. Finally got around to checking connections and found corrosion on pin 2 on ecu. However, I have now found I need a new height sensor on the osr which I am going to have fitted by my local garage. I will report back again when it is done.
Thanks again gents

Does the garage know how to calibrate the suspension? Unless you are lucky, it will need doing.
