Hi All,
please can someone help with my on going front left height sensor issue.
so far i have
replaced all bags,
rebuilt valve block and comp,
chopped out white block behind passenger side kick panel and stripped and rejioned all wiring,
replaced front height sensors with new,
cleaned all EAS earths and connectors.
Ok, my problem is the front left will just not move on recallibration, it is always half inch or so higher than the right. I have swapped sensors over and always make sure connectors to sensors are clean and dry. I use storeys software and always get good idle, i have tried to recalibrate 4/5 times but always the same out come, i use a tape measure from wheel centre to wheel arch using the measurements i picked up from here. The front end jiggles sometimes when stopped which i suspect is because of the height difference at the front, i just do not under stand why the front left refuses to move, i mostly drive my RR in inhibit mode as to not over work the comp but would really like to get this issue fixed once and for all, thinking about buying a caravan this year and would be far happier if EAS was all good.

Setting heights are + or - 7mm that is as accurate as it gets. You need to be on dead level ground. Tyre pressures correct. And do it from outside of car don't climb in to change settings then get out to measure.

Could be a dodgy driver pack that is what cured a very similar fault with mine wait for wammers or datatek they are the knowledgeable EAS chaps and will put you right :)

Can't see how it would be driver pack. It only does as the ECU tells it. Driver pack has no idea how high suspension is it just opens and closes valves for the ECU. :);)
 
Have you checked the rear right, diagonally opposite, is not too low?

I have just been through all this after hitting a buried pipe in the desert where the rear left sensor was damaged and effectively stuck at high level.

I tried for ages to correct the height but it would not move; swapped it for another and now it's ok.

Amazed that there was no hard fault with the rear left up in the air!

I begin to think that the sensors are responsible for many of the faults we attribute to bags and valve block ...

Hi, yes, have checked rear right, both the rears are spot on, all other corners are at correct height with tape measure its just the front left is half inch to high but will not come down to match front right?

Maybe car isn't 100% straight, try raise rear right so that share half the difference with front left. Remember to do it on flat surface with correct tyre pressure.

When I did mine, I took car to the bump stops, measured and took screen dump of the readings in unlock suite. There is a slight difference in the sensor readings which can be caused by many factors, wear, bent arms, slight difference in mounts etc.

Every time perfect settings was found during calibration I saved a screen dump and in the end, one final screen dump with perfect settings for my car at that moment in time.
Not a quick job if you're perfectionist:)

Saving what you have on the laptop screen if using unlock suite or lynx, Ctrl + print screen and you can paste it into a document like words or web pages etc.

Bit like taking a photograph of the screen without a camera.
 
I haven't used Storey's software to do this but with the Nanocom you have to be careful not to enter exaggerated values when changing the height or the ecu will reject all your work and revert to what it had stored before..

If front right reports 120 for example, what does front left state is its height?

If you up front right by 4 bits, does it raise immediately and then does the new value entered become that reported by the sensor (more or less)?
 
It is important to get the front heights as near as possibly the same side to side. The rears may suffer doing this but that is how it goes. Settings are plus or minus 7 mm so it is possible to do. Set the fronts first and the rear last. Each time the vehicle speed drops to 1 MPH both front valves open to to adjust pressure across the axle. The rears do not do this. So a mismatch at the rear is more acceptable than a mismatch at the front. If there is an height mismatch at the front each time the valves open the front will drop then be returned to height. This gives the dancing effect some complain of. The more pressure differential side to side the more the dance.
 
Go to the read sensor heights in the EAS software and see what the readings actually are and let us know what the readings are, try using the up down button and see if the readings from the sensor change, you have to re-read to see the value change but movement should be obvious from the outside.

I did what you mention regarding [read sensor heights] on monday with the EAS software, the rears read exactly the same, sorry but can not remember the exact numbers of the top of my head, the front left always reads between 4 and 8 bits higher than the front right. I always do this before i go to the recallibration page, the rears never change and are always a mirror image but the front left always reads a higher amount. I have also in the past changed height settings on the up down button and yes you can pyhsically see the height change from out side the car including front left so i believe the communication is ok between software and sensor. i have in the past whilst callibrating put the front left into a soft fault because i have gone outside the ECU acceptable range and have had to start all over again. To be honest i am thinking of raising the front right to match the left although it would be slightly higher at each setting than advised on here, do you think that would be ok?

Still sounds like a duff track in the sensor to me. I can't explain how the car software / ecu controls the sensor but Storey's software doesn't....

When you set the height from the dash control does front left change by the same amount as the others?

That is, if front right moves by say 15mm for each setting, does front left do the same (even if the height itself is incorrect)?
