Right, Ive searched and searched and cant find a solid answer! What I want to know is how many earth straps are there on a 200tdi disco 1? And where should they go to and from

Thank you kindly! The problem with going out and using my eyes is if there is only 1 on my vehicle then I wouldn't know there are 2 missing. That's why I needed to know how many there should be ;)

Hate to drag up an old topic but........I'm still unsure my earth straps are right. I have a braided strap off the starter motor to the chassis, I have a black cable off the battery to the chassis and thats it. Am I missing one? Also where would I buy these from for replacing them both?

I think two is right.

After a dodgy earth breakdown a few years ago, an AA patrol suggested I put an extra earth directly from the battery to the engine.

I had some spare jump lead cable left over from when I wired my main and aux batteries to Anderson plugs so last week I made my own!!

I used some solder, flux, terminals, heat shrink and a blow torch - 10 minute job.

Yes you are missing one.

There is an earth which should go from the battery neg post to the inner wing, just behind the battery. This is a lighter gauge earth so if you have some heavy gauge domestic (green and yellow) earth wire, that will do.

I've just re-read what I wrote and I know it sounds like I'm contradicting myself, but what I'm saying is that you don't need special automotive earth cable - hope that makes it clearer:eek::eek:

Thanks for the help guys, I've taken some pics just so you can say "yes there all there". Then I'll probably replace them all.

In your first picture you show the main negative earth lead start and finish - however there is a tag on it approx 6" from the battery, that should be attached to the inner wing.

Yeah that is on there, you can just make it out on the pic. So I'm all as I should be then?
