Hi all

looking at getting a cheep Disco for fishing and the dogs and have been looking on ebay at some but they seem to need welding work done to them, is this a major thing to sort out ?? Boot floor, inner wings and door sills ?? Stuff like that

cheers

tony:cool:

that sounds like the usual place of corrossion but also check the drivers passengers footwells my advice would be before you buy one gather a list of what needs doing and and price everything up first its the welding thats expensive unless your a dab hand at it yourself

Rust will definately be your biggest problem with an early Disco, when I was looking for mine I saw some with more holes in em than tea bags! If your handy with a welder could be worth it though.

If i cant weld it im sure our guys in the work yard can , i work for a fabrication company although i do site visits etc we have some very good welders !!! Just wanted to make sure they would hold up once done lol

Also are the autos ok and how will the engines last if they are on around 125k ish ???

Ant thoughts views on the engine/gearboxes???? Are they as tough as i have heard and is 125k still low for a tdi with auto box ????

cheers

tony

thats nothing if the motors been looked after. And there will be plenty of opertunity for you to get yer hands dirty too.

Hi Tony, we have a Tdi200 manual with 164,000mls and she still runs beautifully, no smoke, bags of power and 36mpg.

Also we have an Tdi300 auto with 88,000mls and she is great too, but with the auto box a very nice overall driver, inc off-road.

Your best best, imo, is to forget which gearbox and just buy the best condition, best serviced Disco you can find. It'll do the job admirably.

Cheers and good luck

Dave

Thats what i like to hear !!!

I want a off roader that will get me to my fishing lakes, take the dogs about ( 2 bullmastiffs !! ) and do the local shop run without causing me grief !!!!!!

Not alot to ask really i think ??!!

Is a auto better for off roading ?????

I've done a bit with both and I reckon you get better slow-speed control and less likelyhood of losing traction with an auto.

But the key to happy Disco ownership is - CONDITION !!!!!!!!

Here's a few to be going on with:
1993 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 200 TDI GREEN DIESEL 4x4 on eBay, also, Land Rover Range Rover, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 29-Oct-08 19:30:00 GMT)

Good luck

Dave

go look at it and make sure you get underneath with a screwdriver, you would not believe how much rust you can find under a disco,
sellers a bit of a git aint he. advertises it taxed till oct 09, then says no tax unless you pay for it. he doesn't say much in his advert so it's obviously not his pride and joy. go look at it and treat it as a buying exercise then you know what to look for when you go looking at others..
oh yeah, if your willing to travel and do some phoning round you will find disco's a bit younger and a bit cheaper than that one
mine was a 93, full mot, 2" lift and brand new tyres. went for £500. buyers market m8:rolleyes:

where are all the cheepies lol ??

Been looking for the last three days non stop for them and they all seem to be around the 800 squid mark.

But like i say it will be used daily too so i need something half decent too !!!!!!:D

autotrader, loot, local rags, dealer forecourts, usually round the back as they are takin em as part ex but can't sell em on as the tax hike is panicing people who don't realise that they arn't affected. word of mouth as well. ask people to ask around for ya

Wish i had the time but i got to get one in the next couple of days because im without a motor at the moment which is why the silver one looked good .

Unless anyone has one for sale cheep lol
