In the past even though I owned a petrol engined vehicle ,I always read with interest the topics with regard to EGR removal.
I now own a D2 TD5 (16p engine),and looking at the set up in the cold light of day I ask "what possible harm can there be in just blankling off
the cooler end at the exhaust manifold." This then prevents the passsage of exhaust gas being recirculated . The only thing that comes to mind is that the valve is still in situ.I have checked the valve interior as well as the MAP/IAT sensor and neither shows signs of sooting up.
I recently took the car in for an MOT,and the emmission result was 0.39 ,
what ever that is and was asked if it had an egr valve?

What say you? I am indeed very interested.

Many Thanks.

None what so ever. Blank it off. I have used a flattened bean tin cut to shape and slid between the exhaust manifold and the EGR pipe before now. You cant even see it even if you look for it. However the tin does burn through after a few years so needs replacing.

For max benefit you need to remove the restriction of the EGR valve itself but why not just blank it off and see if your emmissions get even lower at the next MOT.

If you do remove the complete EGR kep hold of the gubbins just incase the DOT insist it has to be there in the future.

Because of the possibility of DOT insisting it be in situ is a reason why I asked.
However I shall as you have suggested completely remove the EGR.
One question?Do you know a link that can clearly show with regard to the vacuum pipes once remove from the valve?
I do believe that if not done properly the braking system could be affected.
Your help appreciated .

Many thanks.

I replaced the vacuum pipe from pump to brake servo and lost the take offs for the EGR completely leaving no evidence it was ever fitted.
Other way is to use some self tapping screws with a dollop of silicone to seal the vacuum pipes.

Shifty, I have done the silicone way at the mo but think that removing it completely is the way forward. Is there any chance of a quick few lines of how to or a photo please. Cheers Andy.
