I've just bought a 2005 Defender 110 double cab, I pick it up on Monday but when I took it for a spin I did notice that the clutch pedal was at the top of its travel for engagement, so I assume it will need a clutch soon. I want to take it to Morocco next year and it will be used as a toy green laning etc.

Whats the consensus on ditching the DMF for a solid flywheel? I saw Paddock were doing a Britpart solid flywheel kit and clutch for £350 is it any good? or should I just get a Valeo DMF and heavy duty clutch?

Basically I want to fit the best long term products, that wont fail in a desert or on the A14!

Firstly are you sure you want to use Britpart? Reviews of solid flywheel conversion are not brilliant, seems to knacker the gearbox due to excessive vibration.

Yep, your all correct, Ive bought a new DMF and AP clutch from Ashcrofs, might as well stick with what LR designed. Thanks

Agree with the comments here, I just did my clutch and DMF with OEM parts. The original did more than 100,000 miles so this is not what you might consider a consumable part which will be needed every year. Found the parts at a good price too.

DMF life is 70-100k miles depends on how it is driven. Lots of stop and go driving 70k mostly motor way driving closer to 100k

Heh, spent 11 hours changing the clutch and DMF, clutch won't disengage now, and can't get reverse, I guess the plate is in the wrong way round, so I have to take it all apart again, bugger.

I had the clutch plate in the correct way, it was the nice new shiny spirit bush that was sticking, all sorted now, total time spent was only 20 hours!
